Mendesak Sukarno-Hatta untuk Merdeka

Tak ada yang lebih penting dari para pemuda saat detik-detik kemerdekaan diproklamasikan. Ketika sekutu mengumumkan Jepang menyerah tanpa syarat pada 15 Agustus 1945, mereka membuat terobosan besar dengan mendesak agar bangsa ini segera merdeka.

Para pemuda ini adalah kelompok terpelajar yang berasal dari asrama Prapatan 10, asrama Menteng 31, dan asrama BAPERPI Cikini 71. Ketika berita tentang menyerahnya Jepang terdengar, mereka berkumpul pada sore harinya untuk rapat.

Pemimpin rapat, Chaerul Saleh, memutuskan tiga hal.

Pertama, mendesak Sukarno-Hatta untuk memproklamasikan kemerdekaan kemerdekaan hari itu juga.

Kedua, hasil rapat menunjuk Wikana, Darwis, dan Soebadio untuk menemui Sukarno-Hatta untuk menyampaikan kepentingan merdeka, dengan catatan proklamasi tidak dilakukan Panitia Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (PPKI).

Ketiga, Chaerul membagi tugas kepada mahasiswa, pelajar, dan pemuda di seluruh Jakarta untuk mempersiapkan diri merebut kekuasaan Jepang setelah proklamasi kemerdekaan. Untuk kepentingan keamanan, mereka juga mendirikan pos-pos penjagaan di seluruh kota.

Para pemuda itu memang memiliki idealisme dalam memutuskan pendapat.

Ideologinya adalah Reine Jugend Ideologie, yakni cita-cita pemuda murni yang menganut ideologi tanpa pamrih. Sebagai bagian dari rakyat, mereka meyakini untuk lebih mementingkan kebahagiaan rakyat tanpa pamrih dibanding kepentingan pribadi atau golongan.

“… Mereka menjelma menjadi kelompok sebagai kesatuan ampuh yang memiliki kepercayaan teguh atas kemampuan diri sendiri untuk turut menggerakkan roda revolusi, memelopori dan membakar semangat rakyat untuk berjuang,”

Para pemuda tidak mau ada keterlibatan PPKI, lantaran organisasi itu adalah bentukan Jepang. Keinginan para pemuda itu bertolak belakang dengan pendapat Sukarno-Hatta yang masih memegang janji Perdana Menteri Koiso di Dalad.

Bagi pemuda, rakyat mendukung Sukarno-Hatta untuk memproklamasikan kemerdekaan Indonesia atas nama Bangsa Indonesia. Dengan begitu, proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia bukan titipan dari Jepang atau kolonialisme barat, melainkan atas kehendaknya sendiri.

Syahdan, para pemuda itu menculik Sukarno-Hatta ke Rengasdengklok, Karawang, pada 16 Agustus 1945, dini hari. Mereka memaksa pemimpin bangsa itu agar segera memproklamasikan kemerdekaan Indonesia melalui radio.

Tetapi, Sukarno menolaknya dengan alasan bahwa keputusan proklamasi harus atas persetujuan PPKI terlebih dahulu. Di situlah perdebatan terjadi.

Alhasil, pada malam harinya, Sukarno-Hatta kembali ke Jakarta untuk tetap berunding dengan para tokoh nasional tentang persiapan proklamasi kemerdekaan, sesambil merumuskan naskah proklamasi, di rumah Laksamana Maeda Tadashi.

Meski prosesnya alot, tetapi Tuhan tetap memberkati bangsa ini. Indonesia akhirnya benar-benar merdeka pada 17 Agustus 1945.

Sekitar jam 10 pagi, Sukarno-Hatta membacakan teks naskah proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia di Jalan Pegangsaan  Timur nomor 56: kemerdekaan atas nama Bangsa Indonesia.
