Barry Buzan merupakan seorang ahli teori hubungan internasional yang ternama karena konsepnya mengenai keamanan internasional.
Ia membawakan kedudukan utama dalam mengembangkan teori keamanan pasca-Perang Dingin dan mendalami transformasi di dalam politik internasional. - Multipolar.
Setelah berakhirnya Perang Dingin, dunia menjelma menjadi multipolar yang bermakna pengaruh dunia tak lagi terfokus di kuasa dua negara adidaya saja, Amerika Serikat dan Uni Soviet.
Hal ini mempengaruhi dinamika politik internasional dan memberikan makin besar ruang bagi aktor-aktor nasional dan regional untuk berperan. - Pembagian & perselisihan ideologi kecil.
Walaupun konflik ideologi antara kapitalisme (Amerika Serikat) dan komunisme (Uni Soviet) sudah selesai, banyak pertentangan ideologi masih terlihat di dalam politik internasional.
Faktor ini meliputi perbedaan pandangan politik, agama, dan nilai-nilai yang mempengaruhi hubungan antar negara. - Keamanan dan perubahan.
Setelah berakhirnya Perang Dingin, konsepsi keamanan internasional pun menghadapi perubahan.
Selain ancaman militer, isu-isu seperti terorisme, perniagaan narkoba, dan pertikaian regional menjadi kian penting dalam penataan politik keamanan internasional. - Konsolidasi Masyarakat Sipil.
Prosedur pendemokrasian dan penggabungan rakyat sipil sudah merupakan fenomena utama di banyak negara pasca-Perang Dingin.
Faktor ini berarti rakyat sipil, terliput kelompok agama seperti Islam, melakonkan kedudukan yang lebih kuat dalam politik domestik dan internasional. - Samuel Huntington.
Konsep ini menyodorkan perspektif baru tentang dinamika politik pasca Perang Dingin. - Kebangkitan identitas.
