Yang pertama dia hadapi adalah pasukan Inggris dan Prusia yang sudah menunggu di wilayah Belgia. Pasukan Prancis awalnya dapat memukul mundur pasukan Prusia di bawah pimpinan Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher.
Yakin sekali menang, Napoleon pun menantang Inggris di tempat yang sudah ditentukan. Pada awalnya, dewi fortuna berpihak pada Napoleon. Napoleon mampu memukul mundur laskar Inggris di bawah kendali Arthur Wellesley, alias Pangeran Wellington.
Namun, hal yang tak terduga terjadi. Blucher yang telah dikalahkan tiba-tiba kembali ke medan perang, lalu berbalik menyerang Napoleon. Napoleon pun harus menghadapi gabungan kedua pasukan tersebut hingga terdesak.
Keadaan juga diperparah dengan kesalahan Napoleon yang tidak mengkomando langsung pasukannya di medan perang.
Kesalahan strategi yang mengakibatkan pasukan Napoelon mengalami kehancuran dalam perang tersebut membuyarkan ambisi sang kaisar dalam menaklukkan Eropa.
Kalah dalam pertempuran tersebut, Napoleon terpaksa pulang ke Prancis dalam keadaan tangan hampa. Menyadari bahwa peluangnya untuk berkuasa kembali semakin tipis, serta harus menghadapi pasukan gabungan negara-negara Eropa yang menuju Paris, Napoleon pun menyerah untuk mencegah pertumpahan darah yang sia-sia.
Beliau diasingkan ke St. Helena, sebuah pulau terpencil di Samudra Atlantik, agar tidak bisa kabur lagi ke Eropa. Berakhirlah kejayaan Napoleon sebagai salah satu orang berpengaruh di Eropa.
