Setelah Kudeta 1965: Kisah Tapol di Pulau Buru (Bagian I)

Sugeng bersama teman-temannya tak henti-hentinya memangkas pohon dan ilalang yang setinggi dua meter itu. Mereka disuruh petugas untuk kerja wajib di Pulau Buru, Kepulauan Maluku, sejak ditangkap pada peristiwa ’65.

Mereka membabat semak-semak, ilalang, dan pohon; kemudian membakarnya. Setelah itu, tanah dipetak-petak beberapa meter dengan batas pematang untuk membuka areal pertanian, serta menghubungkan jalan dari satu tempat ke tempat lain.

Sugeng mengakui, ia bahkan terpaksa mencabuti alang-alang lebat hanya menggunakan tangan. “Sehingga, tangan pada melecet semua,” ungkapnya dalam kajian “Tahanan Politik Orde Baru di Pulau Buru 1969-1979”.

Para Tapol juga mengelola Saprodi atau sarana produksi pertanian seperti pupuk, obat-obatan, bensin, pelumas, minyak tanah, dan alat-alat penyemprot. Para petugas Buru meminjami Kebutuhan Saprodi tersebut, lalu pembayarannya dituntaskan setelah panen.
